An explosion of such magnitude had not been recorded on the entire planet in decades. At all times, however, they would maintain maximum alert and camouflage, this even applied to the science officer as she carried out her duties. The commander signalled to the science officer that all was clear she could now start her analysis. Somehow, a lot of care had gone into the creation of the explosion to stop it from destroying the surrounding vegetation. Instead they were looking into a deep hole with a virtually pristine woodland around them. The tactical unit had expected a much wider crater, with a lot of devastation to the surrounding forest. Readouts on the unit's personal displays told them the crater was very deep. Many civilians had heard it in the local population centres All six of them were quite surprised at the state of the blackened ground, it must have been an incredibly violent explosion. The centre of the crater had the smallest hint of a gentle red glow it was still smouldering. There was bedrock that was exposed and blackened around the edge of the blast area.

They were all looking at a dark crater that was in the middle of a clearing in a forest. Soon they had surrounded the site of the blast and were creeping slowly towards it. Carrying out the orders was second nature for them. The members of the unit could all see the increased temperature on their eye lens displays.Īs they neared the site, the commanding officer silently signalled them to slow down and spread out. He did not know of anyone in his life time who had experienced a radioactive site before. As they got closer to the target location the beat of the knocking increased: so it really was true, the scene of the explosion was radioactive. The user knew it was working he could hear a gentle knocking sound in his ear piece. Only one of the group knew how to use it, though they only knew the device's basic functions. None of them had ever approached anything like this before.Ī very old piece of technology was required for their mission. Their method of movement may have been familiar, but their target was not. They had moved this way many times before, in real situations as well as training. The tactical unit of six people moved silently through the dark forest in a tight formation.
